Immerse yourselves in a unique experience in the heart of Sabina, in collaboration with the Association for Parks and Gardens of Italy’s day “Appuntamento in Giardino”.
Saturday, June 7th, the Fondazione Mario & Maria Pia Serpone opens its doors for a special day of guided tours to discover a hidden gem of contemporary art.
At a reduced price of just 5 euros for adults and free for children under 12, embark on an approximately one-hour journey through a breathtaking art and nature park, where monumental installations engage harmoniously with a pristine and passionately curated landscape.
The Fondazione Serpone is a genuine open-air space for art, designed for those who wish to take their time. Here, desire and nostalgia merge with the essential elements of life: contemplation, reflection, idleness, and dreaming. To inhabit this space means establishing a profound connection with the surrounding environment through listening, scents, and the gentle touch of surfaces, engaging all the senses.
Strolling through the winding meadows, you will discover how contemporary artworks redefine space, ennobling it with open-air environmental installations, performances, and creations that arise from the most innovative languages of contemporary art, using cutting-edge techniques and novel materials in perfect symbiosis with the surrounding nature. This stunning park, where nature itself has traced the first signs of art, offers fertile ground for the creativity of artists and a meeting point to celebrate love, freedom, peace, and balance in respect for all the natural forces.
A bit of history: The Serpone family's passion for art has its roots in the 19th century, with the beloved grandfather Vincenzo, an artist and collector. This legacy was embraced and enhanced by Mario Serpone who, together with his family, established the Fondazione Mario & Maria Pia Serpone - Segni d’Arte in 2009. This non-profit institution is dedicated to the study, reflection, and dissemination of contemporary art as a privileged meeting point between art, life, and nature, offering a dynamic exploration of the various contemporary artistic trends.
During the guided tour, you will have the opportunity to discover unique projects such as:
- "Il giardino delle Esperidi" (The Garden of the Hesperides): curated by Prof. Graziano Menolascina, this temporary exhibition creates a new path within the Foundation's park featuring sculptural works and video and photo installations by important figures on the contemporary scene, such as Enzo Cucchi, Daniele Puppi, Yo Akao, Marta Jovanovic, and Silvia Como. From June 1st to 30th.
- Taurus: An ambitious constellation of monumental artworks arranged in the park according to the astronomical configuration of the Taurus constellation. An inverted sky where the artworks become terrestrial stars, creating a symbolic dialogue between nature, art, and the cosmos. The choice of Taurus honors both the former owners and the zodiac sign of the Serpone couple, transforming the property into an invisible celestial architecture.
- Cappella Nitsch (Nitsch Chapel): Nestled in the woods, a small chapel conceived with the approval of Hermann Nitsch, a prominent figure of Viennese Actionism. The Austrian artist offered his complete availability for the installation of this space with site-specific works and installations, bringing to Sabina the dramatic intensity and the concept of "total theater" that characterize his art. The Nitsch Chapel represents a unique opportunity to connect with the vision of a world-renowned master.
The Park: Located in the municipality of Torrita Tiberina, a short distance from North Rome and near the Tevere Farfa Nature Reserve, the park is situated in an area rich in millennia of history, with traces of ancient Roman villas.
The Fondazione Mario & Maria Pia Serpone, a "Luogo del Contemporaneo" recognized by the Ministry of Culture, awaits you to share the beauty of a place where contemporary art and nature merge into an unforgettable contemplative experience. Don't miss the opportunity to discover this rare gem in the heart of Sabina.
